Eclectic Images Blog bio picture

welcome to my blog!

Welcome and thanks for visting! My name is Heather Banks and I'm an Austin photographer specializing in weddings, portraits, fashion, and editorial work. According to my grandpa, I'm the best wedding photographer in Austin. I think he might just be a little biased. My grandpa also wants you to know that white wine has the most alcohol by volume and that is why he drinks it. I love my grandpa :)

I live in Austin, Texas in a groovy 1970's house that we are currently remodeling (we call it our brady bunch house) with my husband Mike (we're newlyweds!) and our two Boston Terriers, Linus and Moo. You can read all about the trials and tribulations of our brady bunch remodel on my personal blog here. I'm also opening a studio soon in the fabulous East Village Lofts on East 11th Street right in the heart of Austin. So stay tuned for details on that!

In addition to taking wedding photos and family and senior portraits all around Austin and central Texas, I'm also a destination wedding photographer, I've photographed weddings all over Mexico and also in St. Kitts, Barbados, Napa, and Martha's Vineyard to name a few. You can see my destination wedding photography work here. I'm a photojournalistic, award winning wedding photographer -you can view some of my award winning wedding images here .

I would love it if you would become a fan of Eclectic Images on Facebook here!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog and view my work. I hope you come back again and again, and please leave your comments, I'd love to hear from you!

You are welcome to contact me at 512-947-7864, or you can email me at info@eclecticimagesphotography.com. I hope to hear from you soon.

oh baby!

Almost exactly three years ago, I met this man and fell in love.

We moved in together several months later and started a happy little family with my pups, Linus and Moo.

Six months after we met, he proposed, and I of course said yes, yes, yes!

In the midst of planning our wedding, we found a house and fell in love with it. We decided to buy it and remodel it.

Then, in January of 2009, we hopped on a plane to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and got married in front of 30 close family and friends. It was amazing.

Then, last November our lives changed once more when this happened:

We are expecting a baby girl anyday now! My due date was Monday, July 12th, but she has decided to be fashionably late (or at this point, just plain late!) Here is the very first picture of our baby girl, and there will be many, many more to come once she is born!

We absolutely can’t wait to meet her and to have her become a part of our lives and our family.

I’ll be on maternity leave until the end of August, and I’ll resume booking portrait sessions in mid September. In the meantime, email will be the easiest way to reach me (info@eclecticimagesphotography.com). Please excuse any delay in reply, as I’ll be a little preoccupied for the next few weeks!

Knot Real Weddings Texas feature

Last year, I had the pleasure of being a second shooter with my good friend Diana Lott at Alison and Peter’s wedding. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding and I was so lucky to be able to go along as a second shooter. Luckily, the wedding was selected to be published in the latest issue of The Knot Real Weddings Texas – and I was thrilled that they used a few of the images I captured in the layout. Here is the layout, thanks for looking!

tracey and tanner: part 2

And now for the rest of the favs from Tracey and Tanner’s wedding!

tracey and tanner: part 1 of an austin wedding at mercury hall

I have loved getting to know Tracey and Tanner, first at their super windy spring engagement session and then at their fabulous wedding. They are such a fun loving, easy going couple that it is so easy to see why they are so perfect for each other. I believe a couple that laughs together stays together and Tracey and Tanner definitely seem to share the same philosophy! Tracey and Tanner pulled off a beautiful wedding thanks to the help from amazing April with Petalworks for both coordination and event and floral design. The decor was colorful, bold, and so unique, I loved it! And now onto some of my fav photos from part 1 of their day!

amanda and dave: married at indian summer lodge in houston

Amanda and Dave chose a fun, relaxed location for their ceremony and reception which really seemed to fit their relaxed, laid back personalities! I photographed a good friend of Amanda’s wedding back a few years ago and I am always so thrilled when a client hired me based off of the results from a friend’s wedding or recommendation! Amanda has to be one of the most laid back brides ever, and their ceremony had to be one of the quickest ceremonies I’ve ever photographed. It couldn’t have lasted more than 5 minutes, but that is all that was needed for them to say what they needed to say about their love for each other and become married! The reception was a good time to be had by all, I loved their hearts polaroid photobooth! Congrats Amanda and Dave!

evelyn and collin: retreat at balcones springs

Evelyn and Collin have been so much fun to work with! I was lucky to be able to photograph their engagement session a few months back and get to know them during the session! Evelyn is a girl after my own heart, wearing a deep eggplant fun wedding dress for her intimate wedding ceremony, and a turquoise dress for her fun reception the next day, and of course some fabulous shoes and peacock feathers in her hair! Evelyn and Collin are a couple who are easy going and relaxed and just love to laugh, and you can just tell that they will have a long and happy life together! Congratulations Evelyn and Collin!

ashley and remmy: part 2

Here are a few reception shots from Ashley and Remmy’s beautiful Austin backyard wedding!

ashley and remmy: a stunning backyard wedding part 1

Ashley and Remmy, with the help of Austin Wedding Planners, really know how to throw a party! I love that they used their warm and inviting home and backyard as the setting for their ceremony and reception and it was so special that included their adorable boys in the wedding festivities. We used Ashley’s father’s amazing vintage car for some of the portraits and Ashley and her maids got ready at her father’s home. All in all it was an amazing evening and I was so happy to be able to capture all of the moments!

alex and dylan: a horseshoe bay wedding

Alex and Dylan held a fabulous ceremony and reception at Horsehoe Bay Resort. I’m going to share a few of Alex’s bridal photos first – which we did very last minute the week before the wedding. We went all around the eastside of town looking for colorful walls and textures! One of the most memorable things about Alex and Dylan’s wedding was the most amazing wedding gift that Alex gave to Dylan, which was a brand new truck! What a surprise and what a lucky guy! The ceremony was so pretty – I especially loved how they used sand instead of a unity candle – and the reception was so much fun complete with a cigar roller and a photobooth! Congrats Alex and Dylan!
