2010 year in review: favorite austin portraits!

I wanted to do one more year in review post, this time with my favorite engagement, bridal, baby, senior, and family portraits of the year, one from each session. In the past I haven’t photographed a lot of family/baby/senior portraits but I hope to start doing more family portraits and baby portraits because I really love them! And now that I have a baby of my own I realize how very important it is to document every stage in your child’s life.

So, in no particular order, here are my favorite Austin portrait sessions from the year!

announcing four studios – a professional collaboration

I’m so excited to announce that three of my best photographer friends (Diana of Diana M Lott Photography, Vanessa of Photography by Vanessa, and Stacy of SMS Photography) and myself are collaborating to form a new company called FOUR Studios! FOUR Studios is definitely a unique venture – we will each retain our own individual companies and provide photography services thru those companies, but we will additionally be offering collaborative services thru FOUR. For all of the years we have known each other, we have been talking about doing something like this, so the formation of FOUR is a natural progression for us! Working together while photographing gives us the opportunity to each focus on our individual strengths while photographing an event and also brings out our competitive natures which only serves to create better images.

So, while we each will still be available for booking our own individual events, we will also be available as two, three or four together to photograph weddings, events, and portraits.

Ella: 10 months old

Ella is the daughter of Mandi and Shaun (whose wedding I photographed over 5 years ago), and niece of Anna Kate and Charles , and grandbaby of the Edgerton’s of the Wild Onion Ranch. She was almost 10 months old and totally insanely adorable at the time of this shoot, and just about walking already! And, to top it off she has the cutest pigtails ever. Here is Ella as a newborn, she was so tiny! And here are some pics from her session at my studio at almost 10 months old!

The Longley/Mills Family Portraits

I absolutely love working with the same families over and over again and I always feel so honored when they come back to me for photos – such is the case with the Longley/Mills Family. I first shot Jenny’s best friends wedding several years ago, and then Jenny, dissatisfied with her own wedding photos by another photographer, hired me for an anniversary portrait session with her husband Matt. Then, when Jenny’s sister Julianne got engaged to Josh, I was so happy when they asked me to shoot their wedding! Now, Jenny and Matt have had a beautiful daughter, Scarlett (coincidentally she was born just less than a week before my own daughter Zoey was born!) Scarlett wasn’t exactly happy about taking photos, but we sure did try and I think we got a few cute ones of her, and she’s pretty adorable whether smiling or crying! Here are a few of my favs from their family session and extended family session!

Jacque’s Senior Portraits

Jacque is my awesome cousin Felicia’s best friend. When Jacque asked me to do her senior portraits (she graduates from Texas State in May) I was thrilled. And when she said we could do them anywhere I wanted, I was even happier. So, we drove all around the Eastside looking for cool spots – Jacque was a trooper, changing in the car and almost giving a little show to a few passers by We had a blast and here are some of my favs!

Newborn baby Ella

It’s been a long time since I had the chance to photograph a brand new baby, so I was so excited to take photos of Baby Ella! And I was especially excited because I have known the Edgerton family for many years now, since I photographed Mandi and Shaun’s wedding in 2005! And now they have a beautiful baby girl. I love it when I am able to work with families for years documenting their lives and their major life events. It makes my job all worth it! Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot! (and thanks to Sarah for providing so many cool props and for getting Ella to fall asleep for us!)

Kijana and family: Austin family portraits

I met Kijana years ago when we were both taking photography courses at Austin Community College. We have kept in touch since then, and I was so thrilled when she asked me to take family portraits for her – including her sister who currently lives in Sweden and happened to be in town for a visit. The Knight family were so much fun to work with and despite the chilly weather, we had a great time. Here are some of my favorite shots from the session!

Mark of the fabulous Primizie catering and restaurant decided to surprise his wife Lisa for their anniversary with photos of their daughters. I was so happy to be able to help him out and take the photos. He picked a fav and we blew it up on a huge canvas and he presented it to Lisa on their anniversary! What a sweet husband to go through all this effort (even taking the girls shopping for outfits for the shoot) for his wife! Happy Anniversary Mark and Lisa!

Madeleine is an awesome local florist with Jennifer’s Gardens and I was thrilled when she asked me to take some photos of her and her pups, Bailey and Lexie. Despite the heat of summer, we had a great time running around the Eastside looking for cool photo spots. Bailey and Lexie are the cutest pups and I had a great time chatting with Madeleine!
