I wanted to start a series on my favorite Austin area wedding venues and share some of my favorite images from those venues. I often have brides contact me who are already looking to book me but don’t yet have a venue – and I always tell them about my favorite places and point them to the blog so I figure this way I can point them to a set of photos. What are my criteria for a favorite venue you may ask? Well, it’s very non-scientific and simple! First of all, it has to be pretty, of course! It can be an older place, or rustic, or new and architectural, it doesn’t matter as long as there are cool spots to shoot some nice portraits! Also, my favorite venues are always the ones where I love the people who run it/coordinate it. I LOVE when I get a timeline from a coordinator, it makes my job so much easier!

So, my first on the list of favorite venues is AMOA Laguna Gloria. I have been shooting at Laguna Gloria for almost 10 years – one of the first weddings I ever photographed was at Laguna. Laguna Gloria is the kind of venue you see in movies – it’s idyllic really. The venue consists of a restored 1916 Italianate-style villa that was the home of Texas legend Clara Driscoll. Inside the villa they host regular art exhibitions. And of course the grounds are just amazing and lush. The 12-acre grounds overlook Lake Austin and are filled with sculptures and revitalized historic gardens. And I love, love working with Erin at Laguna Gloria – she is the events manager so if you are considering a wedding at Laguna you will surely meet her. I am so glad that Maeling and Dzuy discovered me by way of a wedding blog and hired me to go to California to photograph their beautiful wedding at Calamigos Ranch! We made it a family trip and brought along Zoey at 5 weeks old on her first travel excursion. Young to be traveling, but I figure she best get used to it because we love to go places!

The weather was amazing the entire time we were there and I had never been to that part of California so we were so excited to explore the Pacific Coast Highway. The wedding itself was of course beautiful, Maeling and Dzuy are so laid back and cool, and if there was one thing that was prevalent at their wedding, it was fun and laughter. I loved it how they incorporated their culture into the wedding details and table markers, and how they also incorporated a tradition tea ceremony. And now, onto some pics. First, a few pics of our travels and then the wedding pics!

the amazing wild onion ranch – an austin wedding venue

If you are looking for a fabulous Austin wedding venue, then you must check out the Wild Onion Ranch. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the Edgerton family since 2005 when I was hired to photograph their daughter Mandi’s wedding. They’ve recently opened up their amazing home as a wedding venue to select clients. I’ll be shooting their other daughter Anna Kate’s reception next October at the Wild Onion and also joining them in Hawaii a few weeks beforehand for their intimate destination wedding. I can’t wait!
